Dense breasts? Forced disclosure – why we need this law!

by | Jan 6, 2018 | legislation

With changes in the law being introduced across North America, forcing family doctors and Mammographers to inform their patients that they have dense breasts, we ask ourselves if we need this law, and if so, why?

We feel that besides the breast-health benefits, one of the reasons this forced disclosure is so important is that it brings about a conversation between the patient and her doctor, one that she otherwise would not have had. A conversation about how mammography works and about alternative screening methods – opening the patient’s mind to other screening possibilities. With this law, Mammographers can no longer present themselves as the preservers of all knowledge on screening, detection and outcomes. We need this law!
